Rem Korteweg is a strategic analyst at the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS). He holds a PhD in International Relations from Leiden University. Prior to his position at HCSS he was a Fulbright Scholar at John Hopkins University’s Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, a visiting fellow at the EU-ISS in Paris and a research-assistant at the Clingendael Institute. His expertise includes transatlantic relations, defence policy, diplomacy and geostrategic security issues. He is a member of the Advisory Council on International Affairs’ peace and security committee (AIV). Mr. Korteweg has directed projects at HCSS for public and private sector clients on e.g. the future of the transatlantic alliance, strategic mineral policy, emerging security threats, developments in defence policy and the role of private-security companies and dynamics in the Middle East. He has been published in a variety of academic journals and newspapers and is the author of The Superpower, the Bridge-Builder and the Hesitant Ally (2011).
